UK born, Canadian-based Filipinx artist and JUNO nominated singer / songwriter / selectress Mamalia recalls the first time she heard Chaka's voice, Betty Davis' growl, a hypnotic drum rhythm, Samba to Motown, digging into her Papa's record collection obsessively for hours as a child… Soul, Jazz, Funk, & 90's dance music filled the home and her passion for music finally turned career when she was invited to perform across the globe with her award-winning band Sekoya as well as a solo artist! From New York to Milan, Shanghai Jazz Festival to Stockholm's Fasching, Kyoto Jazz Massive to Berlin Fashion Week, Java Jazz to Notting Hill Carnival, Mamalia's most recent career highlights include being invited to open for Yoko Ono's International Exhibition "Riverbed" and being a part of The Kathara Indigenous Pilipino Arts Collective's performance at MOA.
